Adult Sunday School

Sunday School at St. John's is a great way to get to know other members and to delve a little deeper into the Bible and issues of faith. We currently have six classes based loosely on age, but everyone is welcome in each class. Scroll below to find out more about the options, or better yet, try one out next Sunday! We love visitors!

  • Lamplighters

    The Library, Room 408

The Lamplighters Class welcomes everyone to our Bible-focused class. The class curriculum focuses on asking the difficult questions and digging deeper into the Bible, while applying its teachings to our hectic lives. Our class is frequently led by a guest lecturer. Can't make it every Sunday? No problem! The class works with stand-alone Bible study experiences, so everyone feels they "belong" on any given Sunday.

This class is focused on supporting the young adult and young family base of the church and is committed to giving back to the community through our deeds and service.  We also have two parties per year. Our ages range from 30s to 40s.  We meet Sunday mornings at 9:45 and begin our lesson at 10:00 in the Library (Room 408).

  • Come as You Are

    Room 402

We are a group of Christians seeking to get better at seeing God's plan for our lives and following that plan in this hectic world. Our study materials vary from contemporary books to videos of relevant topics.

We are adults of all ages and stages of life. We look forward to welcoming new members into our group. Our ages range from 40s to 60s. Come as You Are meets Sunday mornings in Room 402 (upstairs in the corner over-looking 4th & Morton) beginning around 9:45.

    *Virtual option available*

  • Good News

    Room 409

The Good News Sunday School Class is a large, lively, talkative group of individuals who care about St. John's, each other, and the community. Because of the varied interests of the class members, a variety of curricula are presented throughout the year. We make sure that those who are unable to be in person, because of sickness or travel, may stay connected through Zoom. Email prayer requests are sent out weekly.

The group consists of couples and singles, ages 60-80+. We meet at 9:50 in Room 409 at 9:50 am. Our attendance  averages 40-45 people weekly.

  • Sojourners

    Room 401

Sojourner’s invite you to join us on life’s journey as we learn more about God. We offer a warm welcome and friendly place to share our faith.  We have evolved into a senior group over the years but welcome everyone as we continue to grow in God’s spirit.

We offer thoughtful teaching along with friendship, prayers, and support for each other. Our curriculum is Adult Bible Studies, an official resource for The United Methodist Church, published quarterly by Cokesbury.   Emphasis is on Biblical selections and text commentary, both of which generate a sometimes spirited, illuminating discussion on Scripture’s application to Christians today. Voluntary teaching and devotional presentations by members are encouraged.

Our class supports outreach projects within and outside the church

community. We host an Annual Christmas Party for additional fellowship time.  We meet Sunday mornings at 9:45 with the lesson starting at 10:00 in Room 401.
