Women's Ministries

St. John's has a very active group of women. We invite you to join any of these groups any time!

  • Ladies in Fellowship Together (LIFT)

    3rd Tuesdays at 10am

LIFT is a group of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of service in our church and community. LIFT meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month (except for June-August and December) at 10:00am. Each month we have fellowship, light refreshments, and a program. All ladies are welcome.

  • Women's Book Study

    2nd Saturdays at 9:30am

Each month (usually the 2nd Saturday at 9:30am), a group of women meet and discuss a novel. The novels range in topic and include secular and non-secular books.

This month's book is The Widows of Malabar Hill by Sujata Massey. From Amazon: 1920s India: Perveen Mistry, Bombay's only female lawyer, is investigating a suspicious will on behalf of three Muslim widows living in full purdah when the case takes a turn toward the murderous. Inspired in part by the woman who made history as India's first female attorney, The Widows of Malabar Hill is a richly wrought story of multicultural 1920s Bombay as well as the debut of a sharp new sleuth.

Discussion will be Saturday, February 8 at 9:30am in Room 105.

Book Club 10th Anniversary

SJUMC Women’s Book Club began reading in January 2009 when the, then, current best seller, The Shack by William Paul Young, was all the rage. A few women decided they wanted to read it and meet to discuss this fiction novel, depicting God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit as modern day characters. An announcement was put in the church newsletter that we would meet on Saturday, February 9, 2009, at the church. More than 25 women joined the discussion that day. After we had thoroughly discussed The Shack, and were about to dismiss someone asked, “Well, what are we going to read next?” The decision was to read Francine River’s Redeeming Love. Almost every month since then a group has met to discuss a book currently read, and a whole lot of life.

Saturday, July 11, 2019 the book club met to celebrate this anniversary year. We enjoyed the celebration at Lois Vogelsang’s home. The pictures above show the ladies who were in attendance and our beautiful and festive book-shaped cake.
