Who We Are
It is an honor to be the pastor at St. Johns UMC! Being a pastor in the Annual Conference for 19 years, I’ve had the privilege to serve churches of various sizes and settings and enjoyed the uniqueness each church offered the communities they serve. In 2004 I met and married my beautiful wife, Kim who continually amazes me with her love. We share our house with a Chocolate Lab named Grace and a cat named Lila. Kim and I are excited to be part of St. John’s rich history and diverse ministry.
I completed my undergraduate work in Sociology and Psychology at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches. After that, I received my M.Div. from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
When not at the church you will find me enjoying several hobbies including pottery, gardening, knitting, working in my garage, camping/ hiking, and playing guitar (badly). But most likely I will be kayaking Matagorda Bay or the Brazos River, chasing after that perfect fish to bring home for dinner.
Director of Music Ministries
Having grown up at St. John's, Mr. Benson joined the staff as Youth Director in 1991 and became Director of Music Ministries in 1996. Since that time Mr. Benson has developed an exciting and growing music ministry touching all ages from children to adults. Mr. Benson has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A&M University and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Houston Baptist University.
Director of Youth Ministry
William Murphree grew up attending Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Tupelo, MS. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the University of Southern Miss in 2008. He moved to Texas in 2010 and has been attending St. John's ever since. He began volunteering with the youth and helping out with the Alive program before becoming more involved by teaching Jr. High Sunday School and teaching lessons for members of the church attending college locally. In June 2013, William was hired as the Youth Director. His favorite parts of the Bible are David and Goliath, Psalm 23 and the character of Barnabus.
Director of Children's Ministries
Nancy joined our St. John's staff as Director of Children's Ministries in the summer of 2016. She brings with her a love of children after retiring from a 30 year career in the field of Education. Nancy is a proud graduate of Texas A&M University's class of '86. She obtained her MA in Education from Houston Baptist University in 1999.
Nancy's family has been attending St. John's for 15 years. She has taught many levels of Sunday School, directed Vacation Bible School, attended camps and assisted with the youth group alongside her daughter, Katie. She has led Bible Studies with adults and has always been involved with the ministries of this church.
Upon retiring, Nancy's biggest goal in finding a new niche was to "make a difference" in lives. And she LOVES spending time sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with the children of St. John's. She sits on the Board of Directors at St. John's School for Little Children and Women InSpirit, both nonprofit organizations which definitely make a difference in lives. Nancy lives each day smiling and grateful for the blessings she enjoys. And she loves to pass this grateful spirit on to others.
Organist and Handbell Choir Director
Ms. Dyle joined the staff of St. John's in 1999. An accomplished organist and pianist, Ms. Dyle brings to St. John's many musical gifts that add to the worship experience. Ms. Dyle also serves as the Administrative Director for Mercury orchestra and directs music at several Houston area theaters.
Office Administrator and Wedding Coordinator
Ms. Rocha joined the St. John's staff in 2005. As a former Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, she runs church office very efficiently. In addition to coordinating office activities, she functions as a receptionist, always welcoming anyone and helping them find what they need. Ms. Rocha also serves as our wedding coordinator, helping ensure that couples choosing St. John's as a wedding site have a great experience. Melissa enjoys spending time with her family and supporting her daughter in various activities at Needville High School.
Connie came to St. John’s in February 2014 after serving as church administrator, ministry assistant, financial secretary and administrative assistant for 18 years in other UMC churches in Texas.
Raised as a Navy brat, Connie saw the world as a child – travelling all over the US, Iceland, and Europe before settling in Texas. As if that weren’t enough travel, she joined the army after high school and was stationed in Germany and Texas.
Connie has three grown children, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
In her spare time, you can find Connie “playing” in the yard/garden, walking/playing with her two “furbabies”, scrapbooking & collecting snowman cookie jars. There are 115 of them that share her home with her in Katy!
Mrs. Moore brings that loving grandmother spirit of caring to St. John's nursery. Having worked in the nursery since 2002, St. John's families can always count on her for the special love that every child deserves.
Head Nursery Attendant
Ms. Garcia, who joined the St. John's staff in 2008, has a special way of showing her love for children. She retired from the Richmond State Supported Living Center as a Home Supervisor after twenty eight years. She still goes and visits with the patients.
Mr. Munoz joined St. John's staff in 2006 and has the difficult job of maintaining the entire church facility. He is always willing to help any way he can on special projects and events and does it with a cheerful spirit.
